Short Story: The Phone Call 2

The entire Ramirez
family sat around the living room waiting for the phone to ring.

Maria sat the closest to the phone, biting her nails. It was the
moment it would all change. All the years of hard work would finally
pay off. They all kept quiet and the tension grew until at exactly 11
o’clock, the phone finally rang. Maria picked it up and listened.

After a few polite words, she hung up and smiled nervously. She
looked down and said, “I didn’t get it. They said my grades weren’t
good enough.”
